The acclaimed Canadian Chamber Choir will be performing and giving workshops in South and Western Nova Scotia as part of a 10 day residency and tour, August 8-18, 2008. The CCC is a unique group uniting professional singers from across the country to support music education for all ages.
Concerts for the public will take place in Port Williams on Wednesday, August 13, in Halifax on Saturday, August 16, and in Clare as part of the Musique St-Bernard series on Sunday, August 17. Throughout their 10 days in the province, the CCC will offer workshops and masterclasses to the participants of the NS Choral Federation’s Young Adult Choir Camp and Institute of Choral Conducting. The choir will also interact daily with Junior Choir campers as young as 8 years old and Adult Choir campers as old as 80!
The Canadian Chamber Choir’s chosen repertoire brings together old traditions with the cutting edge of choral music. The program will feature numerous works by young Canadian composers, including the world premier of Jeff Enns’ Psalm 30 for women’s voices. Music by Aaron Copland, Palestrina, and Rachmaninoff will round out the performance.
Artistic Director Dr. Julia Davids enthusiastically sums up the mission of the CCC: “There is a Canadian story to be told and the CCC is here to tell that story. The CCC’s passionate and exciting concerts build connections with audiences of all ages in all communities across Canada. Building connections is what music, and what life is all about.”
Members of this one-of-a-kind choir come together at least twice a year, donating their time to perform and give workshops to foster learning for singers, conductors and composers. The group has garnered critical rave reviews and won fans with its “extraordinary refinements ... of dynamic shading,” “flawless intonation,” and “polished blend” (Montreal Gazette).
